The Big 21

i have just had one of the BEST weekends of my life.

Saturday night saw us (Me, Dad, Family, IMCers, Pods, Khang+Dex) celebrating my 21st and Dad's 55th at our place. It has been a while since I've held one of these parties, and I'm really glad I did!! :)

We spent the entire day doing preps, cleaning both interior and exterior compounds, decorating the house, sweeping, wiping, moping, washing..you name it, we've done it!! but everyone came over, everyone had fun, everyone liked the place, so it was well worth it.

This is actually a REALLY wordy post, but I don't have pictures yet. Will post some up in due time. :) You've been warned!

Highlights of the night :

  • We ran out of time..by the time my 1st guest arrived, I'd only JUST finished showering and putting on my dress, so I had no choice but to greet Hannah at the door with soaking wet hair. ngh..not a good look. :P
  • Sta and I tried curling one side of my hair (in between greeting guests and putting make-up on) which ended up quite horrendously :O so I tried to blow it straight again. Surprise surprise, my hair refused to uncurl itself, and I was 2 seconds away from freaking out, but i had an epiphany (AHA! what if i wet my hair and blow it dry again?) so I didn't end up looking toooooo bad. :P
  • I wore my expensive purple dress, which fished me a few compliments :) but I also realize it exposed my very unevenly tanned back. :(
  • Greg sang me the acoustic version of 'Replay'.

"..I'm in the kitchen cooking things she likes....Someday I wanna make her my wife.."

  • Inappropriate lyrics much? LOL. now I can't listen to that song without thinking of Greg, and I'm not entirely sure if that's a good thing or not. =/

Cheng Loon sang 'Collide', what can I say? He's got the voice, he's got the skillz, it was geng :)

Nonetheless, bigBIG thank you to both dudes :) it was ossum, I loved it!
  • The theme "All Things Bright and/or Beautiful" kinda failed, I think only the girls got the idea. All the ladies looked absolutely lovely! KUDOS to the dudes who turned up in nice, proper collared shirts. Well done! :D The rest who didn't - nevermind, I forgive you. ;) LOL.

  • Received a whooole bunch of presents, the most ossum being a SCRAPBOOK made by my family, it was perfect!! :) Next ossum, got a drum pad and a pair of drumsticks from Gabs, Dev and Al to practice strokes on, that was brilliant!! :D Hmm, looking at the clutter in my room, I've actually received things in pairs:-

    - 2 beanbags which have all been filled and I can hear them calling out to my bum!
    - 2 lovely photoframes which will be filled with ossum pictures when i get them
    - 2 bags - 1 girly one from Dotti, 1 cool Krumpler, both awesome :D
    - 2 purses - 1 black Guess, 1 white Gyanimaru.
    - 2 perfumes - Gucci Envy Me and a Body Shop Moroccan Rose
    - 2 books - To Save A Life & Jane Eyre
    - 2 pieces of clothing - a nice top that i don't know how to describe, and a colourful skirt
    - 2
keychains - Kimmidoll (it's Kim with Sam's eyes! :P) and one with the letter M
    - others include : Yoshi, (the SuperMario Dinosaur), a toiletry bag, Lush shower and bath items, Salt & Pepper crockery, 'Couples Retreat' DVD (LOL!!), a photoalbum, gift cards (Koorong, Myer, Hoyts), chocolates, jewellery (a pair of Swarovski earrings, a 21st birthday key necklace, a shiny silver necklace and more accessories), a watch, angpows, a Parker pen, Blue Brothers Moscato, Yellow Jewel, (Evans & Tate?) wine and this really awesome selfmade chipmunk birthday card by Albert!

*whew* opening them actually got abit tiring towards the end =/ but I do love every single one of them, and all them cards with well wishes just completes the picture. :D
  • I opened Dme's gift, and held it up to my chest...until Gabby looked at me with a serious/shocked/omg face and said, "Mel...that's a SKIRT!" OMG embarassedface much LOLOLOLOL. *blush* THAT was probably IT. the megablooper, highest highlight of the night.

  • Jason baked me a lemon (not so much coconut) cake! It was a bit too sweet (there were crunchy sugar granules in it! :O), but it was very good. Apparently he almost burnt the house down in the making. AND! he was the ONLY ONE who came in a suit, because his dear little sister told him "Everyone else is hiring tuxedos and everything!" :D :D

  • It took 3 people to divide leftover cake into containers, twas pretty hilarious. I think we concluded engineers ie Esther had the best estimation skills. No offense Francis and Sta. :P
  • When everyone else had left, Esther, Sta and I sat outside enjoying the night breeze and champagne. Bring on the girl talks and D & Ms and what-nots! :)
All in all, I'd say it was a success, definitely VERY memorable, and I love everyone for making it all happen. :) so if I haven't already said it, THANK YOU VERY MUCH, I had a wonderful time, and I now have many happy memories, all made in a night, that would make me smile on crummy days.

So happy, that thinking of the $180 I spent on my dress doesn't even hurt anymore. :)

What do you do

when you have to get into work an hour early to start the day

when you get angry with the new girl at work

when you get even angrier with yourself because you were determined to keep your cool at work with the new girl

when the skies are grey and gloomy

when you burn dinner

when there are a million things piled up (and still going) on your To-Do-List

when you're waiting on a sign from up above (and still waiting)

when people don't realize the importance of rsvps

when people muddle times and things up

when the internet stuffs up on you

when you just cannot be bothered to think about anything anymore

>=/

you suck it in, and you go for a run. then you sleep.

and hopefully, we all wake up to a bright sunny happy day in the morning.

i don't remember being this irritated in a reeeeally long time. whew. okay, rant over. :)

cheesycornysappy in a blender

i have finally watched Made of Honor after a looong time of 'yeaaaa been meaning to watch it but no time la'.

needless to say, i loved it! it was light-hearted and funny and sweet...man, it was a total feel-good movie. dude, i did not have to shed any tears! :P

yeah, it's the sort of movie that makes you smile silly for like, 5 minutes after it ends, but then it gets you thinking about romance and love in the real world.

i wonder if it actually happens somewhere in this big globe we're in: girl meets guy, guy meets girl, and they're just so..perfectly matched together it seems they were born to be together, sort of thing. best part of it all : they're best friends already. :)

end of the day, a movie's still just a movie i guess. but sometimes, i just can't help but wish i'll have that sweet happy ending with the perfect-for-me guy someday. :P what? (i'm probably not alone in this..admit it girls! xD) yeaaaa whaddya know. i'm corny. and rom coms just have that effect on me. :P

ah wells. on a side note, Aussie Day was pretty fun, and i've now got this weird crown-shaped tan/burn on my back which is starting to hurt. :(

Stuck in the jam - Me, Sta, Sam, Tiff, Nick

another side note, Esther's back! :D woohoo~ beach time on Friday!

missing you bridge homies

i can't write this in facebook without sounding like im affiliated with homeless people living under a bridge in kuching.

(is there even a bridge in kuching?!)

i miss the friends i grew up with throughout high school. wonder when i'll see them again.

i've forgotten how to play bridge now. it's been so long. too long. :(

it makes me sad. even sadder because i can't do anything about it, not yet, anyway.

obligations, obligations.

one day.

it will be VERY worth the wait. promise.

do i care?

there's no doubt about it - it's always easier to be indifferent.

question is, is it always better?

of retrospects and prospects.

hey hey! it's the 1st day of 2010. :) welcome, new year. so same drill, reflection reflection...

2009 i'd have to say was full of lessons. y'know, just the little things in life you learn by experience..

Lesson #1
NEVER drive a car that's not yours, if you can help it. Sometime in November this year, i got into my first ever car accident, the unfortunate thing about it was : the car i was driving was not mine. it was a loan car i had to borrow (because my vehicle service took aaaaages) and i just had to crash it! what luck :P now i have this built in prejudice against Holden Cruzes. i go 'Grr, stupid car.' everytime i see one along the road. what?! it IS stupid. :P

Lesson #2
I now know FOR SURE where to feel for the Dorsalis Pedis pulse - not being able to find my patient's pulse during the exams was depressing.

Lesson #3
At the end of the day, i find that street directories still pwn GPSes. maybe it's because i own a GPS that just doesn't work at all, or maybe it's because i will forever remember the time we (Pod buddies and I) ended up at a giant Woolworths instead of a strawberry farm up north, after following the GPS's instructions. plus, it's brain exercise. :)

Lesson #4
Change is inevitable, and while it is true that some things will never change at all (like my height and how my favourite clothes to wear at home are boardshorts and a t-shirt or a basketball jersey), we can't expect everything else to stay the same. we adapt, that's what we do. without complaining or arguing too, because that's what the Bible tells us to do. Philippians 2:14 :)

Lesson #5
Life is like a book, where each phase of life resembles a chapter. Every good book closes its chapters well, and every good book finishes itself well.

Lesson #6
I learnt that I am a Peaceful Phlegmatic by nature :) easygoing people person, but indecisive and passive sometimes. okay, so maybe i learnt this from answering a questionnaire, but hey. it's true. :) i'm a phlegm!(atic)

Lesson #7
To gain something, that's Knowledge. To let go of something, that's Wisdom.

2009 was also a year of Firsts for me. let's see, for the 1st time in my life...

...i crashed a car. no love for Holden Cruze hmphh.
...i watched a 3D movie . it was Avatar, and it was Awesome. :)
...i attended a CMCA Youth Conference in Perth!
...i have met my doppelganger! (refer to picture below or check facebook photos)
...i saw an empty and dark Transperth train, and got creeped out. i mean, the public trains are NEVER dark and empty!
...i went to a strawberry farm and ate strawberries the size of my palm! loved it. :D
...i own a pair of black framed glasses!! Woopdedoo!

moving on, RESOLUTIONS. Note: these are in no particular order.

1. Wear more dresses, which means i have to buy more dresses first. (just like Dad said, 'About time!')
2. To not be so selective about who i care about..to care about everyone, in other words. i've realized that while i was getting close to some people in the past year, i was also, at the same time, drifting away from some.
3. To have Quiet Time everyday. no Disciple to help me now!
4. To lose abit of weight. okay, so maybe my holiday resolutions of becoming a gym junkie failed, but i would very much like to lose abit of weight before my 21st.
5. To have an epicly awesome 21st. :) big or small.

So here's to a brand new year..Bring it! Happy New Year, guys. :)
